E466 Vintage Tortoise & Operculum Earrings - These earrings were made well before the ban on products of Tortoise shell. (An treaty was passed in the 1970's to protect Hawksbill turtle shells.) The earrings are probably from the 1940's, made of tortoiseshell and accented with another type of shell - Operculums. These come from a species of sea snail called the "Turban Shell" found in the South Seas.
These are large earrings but being of such lightweight materials they're very comfortable to wear. Total earring size is 2 1/4", a jump ring connects the two pieces. The teardrop shape at the ear is 3/4" x 1/2". The dangling drop is 1 1/2" x 3/4". Clips are on the back. PRICE: $75.00 Order
