BH621 Micro-Mosaic of St, Peter's Brooch - Tests as low karat Gold, but I believe it's a thick layer of Gold plate. The antique brooch is set with tiny tiles that form a picture of St. Peter's Square in Rome. Set in Onyx, the scene is done in colors of browns, corals, blues, and whites. It's 1 7/8" x 1 5/8" in size with a C-clasp closer. As often happens with micro-mosaics of Onyx, the stone has a crack (not uncommon for a piece from the 1800's) and there are few small flea bites along the edge. This said, the mosaic piece is very stable and I see no tiles missing or loosened. These old mosaics are the best, showing a true artistry in working with such tiny pieces to create the intricate design. STOLEN
