BH603 Victorian Mourning Brooch - An example of Victorian use of symbolism, this brooch has carved grapes that stand for Christian faith. Although it's made of one piece, it's molded to create a tapering, smooth surround for the design on the interior. The grapes and leaves are slightly recessed with a textured background. I'm not sure what this piece is made of. It's very lightweight and seems to be some sort of compressed material, not Jet, Vulcanite, or Gutta Percha. Has light chipping on the back, no damage apparent on the front. Measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" and is a good example of late Victorian mourning jewelry. STOLEN
